European Movement NI has welcomed suggestions proposed by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to mitigate some of the worst excesses if a ‘Hard Brexit’ is imposed on Northern Ireland. EMNI had argued a ‘Hard Brexit’ is in contravention to the expressed wishes of the people of Northern Ireland, and that there is now no clear mandate for this. Ian Parsley,
The European Movement in Northern Ireland has welcomed a House of Lords Report which has found that the specific circumstances in Northern Ireland give ‘rise to unique issues’ that will need to be addressed during the Brexit negotiations.
Prof. Simon Lancaster(University of East Anglia) - #EU students & colleagues now feel less welcome... Theresa May was very keen to secure an end to freedom of movement... I'm very sad that this benefit will be denied to my students & children.
NI was a net beneficiary of #EU membership, we got more back from EU than our taxpayers put in. Nelson McCausland dismisses this huge benefit for NI as part of our membership. @vinnybelfast @morrice_jane
In the last hours of #2018, our foremost wish is that #2019Hopes will see NI and the rest of the UK remaining committed to pooling sovereignty and European cooperation by the year's end and still be a full member of the #EU and rejects #Brexit in a #PeoplesVote. Happy New Year!
We're very sorry to hear of the passing of our colleague #PaddyAshdown , a committed European. His passion and insight will be sorely missed, at such a crucial time in UK/#EU relations with tragedy of #Brexit looming.
The important point made during the #Brexit Referendum though was that there would never be such developments (European Army, Turkish membership etc) because the UK had a veto. Now, of course that veto will go. @BBCTalkback @williamcrawley
